La mina "gótica" cercana a Lieja

Seguimos repasando lo que dio de si la edición de 2009 de la EXPLO de UrbexForum.
En este caso visitamos una antigua mina de carbón situada en Lieja (Bélgica) cerrada en 1977.

EQ|9 - Exploradores|Colegio

Cela Televisión de nuevo en la EXPLO

La cuarta edición de EXPLO, la reunión de exploradores urbanos más importante de Europa y que organiza Urbexforum, se celebró en mayo en la Kent School, en Alemania.
De nuevo este año el Club CELA ha estado representado por Umpi, Pepita-Lain y Stewie. Y, por supuesto, las cámaras de cela|tv.
Primero conoceremos a algunos asistentes y luego recorreremos un lugar lleno de historia.

The 4th edition of EXPLO, the largest urban explorers meeting in Europe organized by Urbexforum, was held in May at the Kent School, in Germany.
Again this year the Club CELA has been represented by Umpi, Pepita-Lain and Stewie. And, of course, cela|tv’s cameras.
First we met some assistants and then a tour into the history.

EQ|5 - Búnker

Lo que queda de un refugio de la II Guerra Mundial

Poco hemos podido encontrar sobre la historia de este búnker.
Sabemos que se construyó como Sala de Operaciones en el transcurso de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, que siguió utilizándose durante la Guerra Fría, que en la década de los 80 se habilitó como centro para emergencias y que finalmente fue un museo.
Fue demolido a finales de 2007, medio año antes de nuestra visita.

We can’t find much about the history of this bunker.
We know that it was built as Operations Room during World War II, was still used during the Cold War, during the 80’s was used as Emergency Center and finally, it was a museum.
The bunker was demolished in 2007, six months before our visit.

EQ|5 - Central

Una central eléctrica con seis imponentes torres de refrigeración

Impresionante lugar aunque es un abandono que se visita rápido y en el que apenas queda nada reconocible.
Pero poder estar en el interior de una torre de refrigeración, escuchar el eco de tu voz y el sonido del viento mientras miras hacia arriba es algo que merece la pena.
Desgraciadamente en el vídeo no se aprecia la magnitud de la central.
Nos cuentan en Derelicte y en la Wikipedia que la Thorpe Marsh Power Station se proyectó en 1959 y entró en funcionamiento en 1963.
Tenía dos generadores de carbón y una turbina de gas que le permitían una producción de 1 GW.
Se cerró en 1994 y que desde entonces está siendo demolida poco a poco.
De todo el complejo sólo quedan en pie seis de las torres de refrigeración, un par de edificios grandes y una decena de pequeñas construcciones.
Las torres tienen una altura de 100 metros y un diámetro de 79.

There is not much to see here but it was a spectacular visit.
Be in the interior of a cooling tower, hear the echo of your voice and the sound of the wind while looking up is a fantastic experience.
Unfortunately in the video we can't appreciate the magnitude of the plant.
You can read in Wikipedia and Derelicte the history:
"The station was commissioned in 1959 and was built as a prototype for all the large modern power stations in the UK. It opened in 1963. It contained 2 generating sets powered by coal, and had a gas turbine set using an industrial static version of a Rolls-Royce Avon aero engine with a capacity of 14.9 MW. On 7 January 1973 four workmen died. The CEGB was put under investigation for breaches in safety provisions but they were found to have all died accidental deaths.
The station has been closed since 1994 and the 45 acres (18 ha) site was acquired by Able UK in 1995.[2] Much of the station has been demolished and now only its six cooling towers (each 340 ft (100 m) high and 260 ft (79 m) in diameter at the base), two ash slurry hoppers, railway sidings and the station's large adjacent electricity switching station still remain".
